Romantic Winter Engagement in Kelowna

Romantic Winter Engagement

Romantic Winter Engagement Photography

This is a great session for couples that are very love-y dove-y, are quite passionate with each other and like that, being close & connected look in their photographs. To be perfectly honest, these are NOT easy to execute from a photographers stand point. Here's why:

  • It's not easy for couples to be open with each other while a third person is watching (and taking photos) of you and your fiance.
  • Sometimes it's hard for couples to let their guards down and allow someone else see delicate moments between them.
  • Not everyone is comfortable showing lots of public displays of affection. So instead of romantic you'll get cheesy or even awkward shots.

What Creates that Romantic Look in Engagement Photos?

These images concentrate on the interactions between couples. Everything else (like a beautiful dramatic sky or scenic mountains in the background) are just bonuses.

Anything I Should Know About Winter Engagement Sessions?

Absolutely! Schedule your session as early as possible to maximize the amount of light (in the winter it gets dark fast). Allow for extra time between takes to warm up. No one likes Rudolph noses in their photos. Don't forget to dress appropriately for the weather!

Romantic Engagement Session TIPS

There is A LOT I can go into here and at the end of the day, every photographer has their own way of shooting. Personally, here are my top 3 tips:

  1. I like to give the couples space and use my really long lens (canon 70-200 2.8 L) to stay out of their personal space.
  2. Secondly, I don;'t attempt romantic shots within the first 5 minutes, but more so towards the middle or end of the engagement session.
  3. Thirdly, I tell my couples to imagine that no one is here, but you two.

Urban or Environmental?

Time permitting, do both! It'll give you a nice variety to the photographs and who knows you might love the urban downtown feel a lot more! We hit Bernard Ave here in Kelowna to finish off the engagement photography shoot.
