Edgy Urban Engagement

An urban setting has become very popular over the years. Younger and older couples alike are inclined to choose architecture and a rougher downtown setting over the traditional, “green backdrop traditional photos”.

Urban Photo Shoot Ideas (Locations):

  • Rooftops
  • Street alleyways
  • Parking lots - Plenty of those in downtown Edmonton
  • Main streets - Jasper Avenue, Whyte Avenue 104 Street
  • Stairways - Churchill Square
  • Monumental Buildings in your City - Art Gallery, Rogers Place
  • Glass Buildings Downtown

The variety of backdrops the city offer is limitless. Sometimes, just by walking to the next location something catches your eye. Love working with glass buildings - their reflections, skyscrapers, cars and even people.

What Creates that Edgy Look in Photos?

It’s really difficult to create that edgy look to engagement pics using natural light. To bring drama, depth and dimension your engagement photographer should use off camera flash. By using this lighting technique, you can easily achieve that edgy look to photographs.

Top 3: Urban Engagement Session Tips

  1. Be ready for a multiple location shoot
  2. You might be jumping in and out of your car and changing locations frequently
  3. Bring change for the meters to avoid getting a ticket

Kristy wore a black outfit complete with a fashionable leather jacket and tall boots. Josh kept it very low key with a relaxed ripped jeans and simple long sleeve shirt. Josh had a muscle car which he was looking forward to incorporating into the engagement shoot. We waited until it got a little dark outside and headed to an abandoned roof top parking lot.
